Showdown
The Bride AKA Black Mamba AKA Beatrix Kiddo. This scene, "Showdown at the House Of Blue Leaves" is one of the best fight sequences of all time.

There Is No Spoon
I'm doing an ongoing series of sketches from movies. Many more will follow soon. I'm hoping to get things going on this blog again! The first one I'm posting is from The Matrix (obviously). Enjoy!

Skull Painting
Got a new Cintiq and wanted to play with it, so i did this painting with a photo reference for some practice, been forever since i've done stuff that doesn't rely on line work. I could work it and blend it to death but was fine with this and ready to move on.

Acutis Presbytis Venatoris
I gave the creature a fancy latin name to make it seem like a real "scientifically classified" animal. It means "Sharp Sighted Hunter". I was trying to create something agile and deadly that had all sorts of senses. I wanted it to be able to hunt prey in all the unimaginable conditions an of alien rainforest, or James Cameron's brain.
I usually gravitate towards chunky cartoony lines, so this is just the second time I've really tried to realistically render the shit out of something digitally, the first being my Cthulhu. I made a lot of embarrassingly bad mistakes on that attempt, which I tried to avoid. For the most part I think it's a big leap forward.
I included 3 stages of development to show my overall thought process here.

Rucksack Guerilla
So the client for this actually found me from this blog, he really like the "cool gorilla" sketch i did a while back and wanted something similar for his web site: http://www.rucksackguerilla.de/
Turns out he (Andy) was a really nice guy to work with, i believe he's from Germany, so it was also my first time getting paid in Euros ... neat! Thankfully paypal does the currency exchange on its own.
When he initially contacted me, i thought that the idea was pretty out there ... Fidel Castro kind of look, Popeye style arms, board shorts and a 'hang ten' sign with flips (no problem!) and a rucksack. Anyway, rather than try to corral his ideas to fit my own, i just ran with it and actually think that i interpreted his vision, rather than make it my own. It was fun doing it this way, and took some of the pressure off too. I'm happy w/ how this turned out, not sure when Andy will update the site, but i'm looking forward to it.
