After that I moved on to Simbad the Sailer, which I approached differently. Instead of attempting to repair the retarded design choices I made as a child, I decided to embrace them. It's still unfinished as I only had 2 lunch breaks, but I like it a lot more. I learned a lot from this assignment and wouldn't mind revisiting it in the future.
First off...Angry Unicorn is hilarious! I did the same thing and dropped my original idea on Wed. I can almost tell you were uninspired at some point w/it. Simbad on the other hand has a pretty good start. Wouldn't mind seeing it finished at a later date.
ReplyDeleteEmbracing the bad childhood art choices definitely worked in your favor. Good call, breh.
ReplyDeleteSimbad is a bad mutha trucka! This is beautiful! This more painterly rendered style suits you well. I'd like to see one of your early W.T.'s projects rendered similarly.
ReplyDeleteWhats neat is how it looks like its 3d coming off the page. I like that you kept the feeling of that its still on paper but coming to life. Angry Unicorn just got away from you, but the 2nd is very cool
ReplyDeleteWELL.... i disagree... i think angry unicorn is awesome... it fails in the aspect that it cannot exist without the original drawing right next to it.... but when you look at the two together...i think your angry unicorn is hilariously awesome. i see where you were going with it... trying to real-ify it while keeping the spirit... I still get a little art rection for it! I do like simbad though. quite alot! it reminds me SO MUCH of some old weird 8 bit games... like you would have to float down this straight river while a snake filled with jewels jumped over you at intervals... while you have to time your one move "stab" JUST right to kill the snake.. but first you have to break each jewel to weaken it. DO IT MAKE THAT GAME NOW!
ReplyDeleteI want "Angry Unicorn" as a poster. It's like a childish reverse Successories sign. Me laugh good.
